The Internet could be counted as one of the biggest wonders of the world. It started with UNIX hackers sending Emails to each other on minicomputers. The command line interface was called a Shell. The accepted protocol was Telnet (later upgraded to SSH, or secure shell, which is an encrypted form of Telnet). In the 1980's, the PC expolsion occured with everyday people using IBM, Apple, Atari and other computers. With this explosion came problems like crackers and software priates. On the plus side, BBS's developed (multiuser systems one can dial in to). BBS's evolved into Dial-Up HTML in the 90's, and then to broadband and cable in the Millenium decade. Currently, Presidential candiate Barak Obama wants to improve the Internet and make connections faster, with fiber optic cables and wireless.
One can argue or speculate that the Internet is the nervous system, or even a brain network of our planet. It sure has brought cultures together and made things faster. But as Einstien often has wanrned, the Internet could be used for more sinister puropses such as biometrics and being used as a database to store every person on Earth's prviate information such as name, address, drivers license number, etc. Such an endeavor, by a supposed world leader (Christians call him the anti-Christ from the book of Revelation) is too expensive, curtails personal freedom and is very much like the book from Orwell, 1984, complete with thought police and cameras on every street corner. We as Americans and world citizens must always be on the alert for such a leader and be able to spot him when he comes, and when he does come on to the world stage, PROTEST TO SURVIVE. It is up to each and every one of us to have our shit together and work things out in our own communities rather than relying on a charismatic world leader. This is the basic philosophy of anarchy (Anarchy is not chaotic holliganism and images of punks roaming the city streats)
